PHONOLOGICAL INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES AND PRIMARY PUPILS SPELLING PERFORMANCE IN AKWA IBOM NORTH EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT

The research determined the effect of three phonological instructional strategies on spelling performance primary school pupils in Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District.In order to carry out study objectively, specific objectives, research, questions and hypotheses were formulated.The adopted pretest, post-test,control group non-randomised quasi experimental design. population comprised 11,180 two consisting 5,361 male 5,819 female from public schools a sample size 120 respondents. Instruments titled “Pupils Spelling Performance Test (PSPT) was used for data collection Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) determine reliability instruments, which gave value 0.83 PSPT Mean standard deviation answering while analysis covariance (ANCOVA) testing null at .05 level significance.The findings revealed that there is no significant mean difference pupils’ when taught using rhyming, sound deletion, phoneme substitution Look Say Instructional strategies.The administrators should consider in-service training English teachers strategies. Curriculum planners ensure as teaching methods forteachers achieving goals affects reading writing.
